Griner has re-signed with the Phoenix Mercury on a one-year free-agent contract. She was imprisoned in Russia on drug trafficking accusations for the whole 2022 season, which she missed.

A vape pen was discovered in Griner's luggage, which led to the accusations; many believed the punishment was disproportionate given the available evidence.

Griner has been preparing to play basketball again in recent weeks after being freed from Russian detention two months ago following a prisoner swap.

Griner was doing "remarkably well," according to WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert, who spoke to the seven-time All-Star and reported to CNN.

Before being arrested, it was Griner's final WNBA season, and it seems like she still has unfinished business in Phoenix.
