Over the course of his 20-year career as a professional soccer player, Lionel Messi has earned nearly every trophy conceivable. But the honor he recently got probably affects him somewhat differently.

The attacker from Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain earned the 2022 FIFA Men's Player Award on Monday. Messi tallied 17 goals in 28 games for PSG, but his achievement at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup is what earned him the award.

Messi led Argentina to its third World Cup victory in the tournament with seven goals, including two against France in the Final. Messi won the prized title for the first time in his career.
