ISIS Head Hamza Al Homsi Killed By US Helicopter Attack In Syria

On Thursday night, an explosion that occurred during a helicopter operation in northeast Syria injured 4 US soldiers.

A senior ISIS leader who was killed in the mission set off the explosion, officials said.

"Last night, during a partnered U.S. and Syrian Democratic Forces helicopter raid in northeastern Syria, an explosion on target resulted in four U.S. service members and one working dog wounded," U.S. Central Command said.

"The U.S. service members and working dog are receiving treatment in a U.S. medical facility in Iraq," the statement said.

ISIS chief Hamza al-Homsi was the target of the attack and was killed. According to CENTCOM, he was in charge of the organization's terrorist network in eastern Syria.

"No other ISIS fighters were killed or captured on this target, however, a separate ISIS raid that same night resulted in the death of an ISIS assassination cell leader," said Joe Buccino.

The terrorist organization was militarily defeated in Syria in 2019; since then, its leaders have moved into hiding to avoid being attacked by US forces.

ISIS militants do, however, continue to wage a low-intensity insurgency in Iraq and Syria, and the organization still encourages its supporters in the West to carry out deadly assaults.
