Indiana's Surprising Victory Over No. 5

Mike Woodson made a lot of progress while he was a member of Indiana under Bob Knight. But Woodson was ecstatic after guiding his Hoosiers to a decisive away victory over Purdue.

Today at Mackey Arena, Woodson and the Indiana Hoosiers defeated Purdue 79-71. Jalen Hood-Schifino tallied 35 points to help Indiana take control of the game in the second half.

Woodson expressed his joy at defeating the Boilermakers at Mackey Arena after failing to do so as a player after the contest.

"That’s the first time I’ve ever won here in Mackey. Four years in college, I never won here,"

With the victory, Indiana improves to 20-9 overall, which is their best regular-season win total since the 2015–16 season. In West Lafayette, it was also their first triumph over Purdue since 2013.

The joy that Woodson is feeling at finally defeating their in-state bitter foes is shared by the IU basketball community.

"This W feels different, feels like we are back to IU fundamentals which we haven't seen in years,"

"He’s truly turned our program around after the Archie Miller disaster. We swept Purdue. Regardless of what happens the rest of the year, that’s big for recruiting,"
