Hakim Hart Leds Maryland To Victory

The Maryland men's basketball team defeated Penn State, 74-68, by riding on the excitement of a huge crowd at the Xfinity Center.

 Hakim Hart led the Terps with 23 points, five rebounds, and four assists, followed by Jahmir Young (18 points), Julian Reese (11 points), and other players in double figures.

Penn State had success from outside the line, making 12 of 26 attempts.

  Yet, Maryland outscored Penn State by 17 points off of 13 forced turnovers and won the game with an advantage on the boards.

Donta Scott gave Maryland an early advantage by making a three-pointer on their first possession.

 For the first 5:23 of the game, both squads struggled, scoring a total of just eight points.

 “I thought [Young] got us back into the game in the second half, but he was expending a lot of energy on the defensive end and I just wanted to give the ball to [Hart] to give Jahmir a break,” Kevin Willard said.

 He added, “I thought he did a great job of just probing, being aggressive, finding guys, and then you know, obviously when the game’s close, getting to the basket.”

Now, the Terps will face No. 1 Purdue to round out a short homestand, and they are hoping for a similarly boisterous crowd.
